We’re sure we are not alone in finding recent events in Nepal rather emotional and having both visited Nepal at separate times over the last few years, (Mum on an intrepid holiday and me on a mission to delay getting a proper job after university), we are very keen to do something to help. Heeding the advice not to catch the next flight over to the already congested airport in Kathmandu, we decided to use the skills that we know best – Patchwork & Quilting!
So, we came up with the idea of making some quilts but we thought we probably needed some extra pairs of hands! We therefore invite you all for a social evening of sewing to raise money for the search and rescue operation! Enjoy a glass of wine and some home cooked Nepalese food whilst making some simple patchwork blocks. The blocks will then be made into quilts, which we will raffle later on to raise even more money. We are also offering 15% off everything in the shop to all those who come on the night, as a thank you for your help!
All the money raised on the night, plus 10% of the evening’s shop sales will be donated to SAR Dogs Nepal – thats Search and Rescue Dogs in Nepal, who are based in Pokhara, west of the epicentre of the earthquake. So far they have despatched 9 teams of volunteer health workers and specially trained dogs into the surrounding area to search for survivors, but they are in desperate need of resources to continue their work. They have a huge amount of local knowledge of the surrounding area, and are able to reach the areas that international rescue services won’t have access to.
You can read more about this charity and what they do on their website – including daily updates of what is happening now in Nepal.
Our fundraiser will take place on Thursday 14th May from 7 – 9.30pm
Tickets for the evening cost just £10 so please get in touch with us at the shop to book yours now!
