**DATE CHANGE – SPACES AVAILABLE 4TH MAY**
Lara has been teaching with us at The Patchwork Dog for several years now and her courses are always very successful. If you’ve never tried machine embroidery before here’s a chance to start from scratch with this addictive skill. This workshop, Introduction to Machine Embroidery with Lara Sparks is the perfect course if you have struggled with free-motion in the past or have never even tried it before. Although some experience of using a sewing machine is essential for this workshop, this technique goes against what you may already know but delivers amazing results.
If on the other hand you have been to one of Lara’s workshops before and want to improve on what you’ve learnt then there is plenty of scope for that here too!
We’ve put in two dates this year to make this popular workshop more accessible, but if you are really keen then doing both days will give you a very comprehensive over view of this skill and also allow time to finish a canvas, cushion or lampshade.
On this introductory workshop you will start by learning how to set up your machine for Free-Motion embroidery and have a practice whilst making a brooch. You will then move onto making you own picture, using embroidery and appliqué, which can be stretched onto a canvas or made into a cushion.
Lara has taught several classes at Made in Lewes and although it is a challenging technique to take on, her workshops are popular and productive. These Classes always sell out jolly quickly so do get in touch if you are interested in booking a space. Some materials are included, for practicing and for appliqué, but you would need to provide your back ground fabric (available from The Patchwork Dog on the day).
We very strongly recommend bringing you’re own sewing machine to this workshop. You will learn tricks and tips that are specific to your own model and with just one day to learn a new skill, you don’t want to be getting used to a different machine as well. If you machine comes with a darning or a machine embroidery foot then bring that with you too. If you don’t have one you may well find it a good investment for this course. If you have any doubts about your machine and its capability to do free-motion work then give us a call and we can off er advice on most models.
