This Introduction to Machine Quilting with Annabel Groom is a really helpful workshop for any patchworker, whether beginner or advanced, who wants to get to grips with how to quilt on your machine.
In this skills based class Annabel will cover quilting in a straight line, or ‘in the ditch’ using a walking foot and also free-motion quilting – which is a whole different ball game! Both techniques are very handy when it comes to finishing off your quilt – especially if you don’t have the time for hand quilting! You will be practicing using small samples of fabric and wadding, so no need to worry about making mistakes on your own quilt! However, if you have a small patchwork top that you would like to use then do bring it with you, along with wadding and backing fabric.
Our series of workshops called “An Introduction to Patchwork and Quilting” starts on 22nd September with a two day course for beginners. Other workshops in the series include An Introduction to Appliqué, An Introduction to Celtic Knots, and this workshop. The classes can be booked individually to allow you to focus on one area or as a whole series, which enables you to make a whole patchwork quilt.
It is essential that students bring their own machine to this class in order for it to be as beneficial as possible. You will also need a walking foot and machine embroidery or darning foot to be able to both techniques. If you have any questions about the equipment required for this workshop then please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at the shop either through this website or by calling 01273 483886
